A Call to Men is a global violence prevention organization dedicated to redefining manhood in ways that promote emotional health, relational accountability, and gender justice. By challenging rigid norms that teach boys and men to suppress emotion, dominate others, or equate strength with control, the organization addresses the root causes of gender-based violence and its impact on people of all genders.
Grounded in research and public health frameworks, A Call to Men connects healthy, respectful manhood with improved physical health, emotional well-being, and stronger relationships. Studies show that emotional suppression is linked to higher rates of depression, rage, substance use, and premature death among men, while suicide rates remain significantly higher for men than for women—outcomes shaped by harmful socialization rather than biology.
The organization’s work is informed by the social ecological model for primary prevention and aligns with global efforts toward gender equality, including the UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (Goal 5). Through an explicitly intersectional lens, A Call to Men centers those most impacted by systems of oppression and supports solutions defined by people at the margins of the margins.
With more than two decades of experience, A Call to Men has trained and partnered with professional sports leagues, the U.S. military, government agencies, educational institutions, corporations, and international bodies—advancing a vision of manhood rooted in care, accountability, and shared liberation.
Why It Matters: Ending gender-based violence requires transforming the norms that shape how boys and men are taught to feel, relate, and wield power. A Call to Men shows that changing manhood is not only possible—it’s essential to collective well-being.
