Mark Gerzon

Global Leadership Expert & Conflict Transformation Specialist
The old paradigm of leadership was about having followers. The new paradigm is about building bridges and creating the conditions in which everyone can lead.

Mark Gerzon is one of the key architects of the field of global leadership and an experienced facilitator in high-conflict zones who has advised diverse organizations, including the US Congress, multinational corporations, and the United Nations Development Programme, while serving as UN advisor on leadership in conflict-torn countries across Africa and Asia. As President of the Mediators Foundation, which he founded over twenty years ago, Gerzon works closely with projects advancing global citizenship and currently directs the Conflict Transformation Collaborative, a worldwide network of peace-builders seeking to shift paradigms from military power to nonviolent conflict transformation. Author of numerous books, including “Leading Through Conflict” (Harvard Business School Press) and “Global Citizens” (Ebury Press: London), Gerzon has developed innovative approaches to leadership development that emphasize bridging divides and building collaborative capacity across cultural, political, and ideological differences. Currently designing “The Global Citizen Journey,” an interactive workshop based on his recent book that serves as a rite of passage to shift participants’ identities from narrower, parochial perspectives (national, religious, ethnic) toward wider, more integral worldviews that embrace global citizenship and planetary consciousness. His work demonstrates how conflict can become a catalyst for transformation when approached with skilled facilitation that honors all perspectives while creating conditions for breakthrough understanding and collaborative solutions. Gerzon is also working on a memoir entitled “Waking Up” that seeks to bring concepts like enlightenment and awareness into ordinary life contexts, including work, relationships, sexuality, and politics.

Why their voice matters: Gerzon provides practical frameworks for transforming high-stakes conflicts through skilled facilitation and global leadership approaches, demonstrating that sustainable peace requires moving beyond win-lose dynamics toward collaborative problem-solving that honors diverse perspectives while building shared identity as global citizens responsible for planetary wellbeing.
