Pachamama Alliance

AllianceNonprofit/Charity
A global community creating a sustainable future that works for all, partnering since 1996 with Indigenous peoples of Ecuador’s Sacred Headwaters Amazon region to defend their land and culture on their terms while offering people worldwide opportunities to learn, connect, engage, and cherish life

Pachamama Alliance is a global community offering people the chance to learn, connect, engage, travel, and cherish life for the purpose of creating a sustainable future that works for all. Since 1996, the organization has worked in partnership with the Indigenous people of the Sacred Headwaters region of the Amazon rainforest in Ecuador to defend their land and culture on their terms. Pachamama Alliance bridges the modern world and Indigenous wisdom, recognizing that both have essential contributions to the transformation our world requires.

Why it matters: Creating a sustainable future that works for all requires partnership between Indigenous peoples defending their lands and global citizens awakening to new ways of living—and this partnership must happen on Indigenous terms rather than being defined by outside agendas. By offering pathways to learn, connect, engage, and travel, the organization invites people into relationship with both the Amazon and their own communities, understanding that cherishing life and creating sustainability are inseparable. The nearly three decades of partnership with peoples of the Sacred Headwaters demonstrates that defending land and culture while transforming modern consciousness are not separate endeavors but two dimensions of the same work.
