Pathways to Peace is an international peacebuilding, educational, and consulting organization founded in 1981 by Avon Mattison that has been actively making peace a lived reality for over four decades. As a UN-designated Peace Messenger Organization with Consultative Status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), the organization works locally and globally, inter-generationally and multi-culturally to support peacebuilding activities and foster peacebuilders worldwide. Pathways to Peace defines peace as “both an innate state of being and a dynamic, transformative, and evolutionary process” that begins within individuals and radiates outward. The organization developed The Peace Wheel©, a comprehensive peacebuilding model featuring eight interconnected pathways: Governance/Law/Security, Education/Media, Economics/Business, Health/Relationships, Science/Technology, Religion/Spiritual Teachings, Environment/Habitat, and Culture. Since 1981, Pathways to Peace has collaborated with the UN to expand awareness of the International Day of Peace (September 21st), growing it from a small event into a global movement reaching hundreds of millions. Through the Culture of Peace Initiative, the organization unites diverse peacebuilders and organizations worldwide to realize a culture of peace for the common good.
