Patrick O’Neill’s Four Directions Programs

Training Course / Workshop
Patrick O’Neill continues Angeles Arrien’s Fourfold Way, guiding participants through the Warrior, Healer, Visionary, and Teacher archetypes drawn from shamanic traditions worldwide through year-long programs, intensives, and retreats.

Patrick O’Neill’s Four Directions programs carry forward the work of Angeles Arrien, the Basque-American cultural anthropologist who spent decades mapping four archetypes she found woven through shamanic traditions worldwide: the Warrior, who shows up and stays present; the Healer, who pays attention to what has heart and meaning; the Visionary, who speaks truth without blame; and the Teacher, who stays open without attachment to outcome. Arrien detailed this cross-cultural map in her influential 1993 book, which readers have returned to for years as a slow companion for self-examination rather than a quick read. O’Neill, who taught alongside Arrien for twenty years, now leads year-long online programs, intensives, and retreats that keep her practices alive through embodied exercises, journaling questions, and community.

Why It Matters: The four archetypes offer a practical, cross-cultural lens for recognizing our own patterns of leadership, care, honesty, and letting go, and for noticing which of these capacities we lean on and which we have neglected.
