The Trevor Project

Nonprofit/Charity
Lifesaving and life-affirming services to LGBTQ+ young people through 24/7 crisis counseling, peer support community, advocacy to change laws and attitudes, public education for allies and educators, and research equipping policymakers and professionals to better serve LGBTQ+ youth.

The Trevor Project provides lifesaving and life-affirming services to LGBTQ+ young people through multiple interconnected programs. Crisis Services offer counseling support 24/7, all year round. Peer Support provides an affirming international community for LGBTQ+ young people. Advocacy works to change hearts, minds, and laws in support of young LGBTQ+ lives. Public Education helps allies and educators understand the needs of LGBTQ+ young people. Research conducts studies to equip policymakers and other professionals serving LGBTQ+ youth with evidence for better decisions.

Why It Matters: LGBTQ+ youth face disproportionate rates of crisis stemming from rejection, discrimination, and isolation—and addressing this requires both immediate intervention and long-term systemic change working together. By combining 24/7 crisis support with peer community, advocacy, education, and research, The Trevor Project addresses the full ecosystem affecting LGBTQ+ youth rather than treating crisis intervention as separate from the conditions that create crisis. The commitment to being both lifesaving and life-affirming recognizes that LGBTQ+ young people deserve more than survival—they deserve communities, laws, and institutions that support them in thriving.
