The Wellbeing Economy Alliance (WEAll) is the leading collaboration of organisations, alliances, movements, and individuals working towards a Wellbeing Economy delivering human and ecological wellbeing. Born in 2018 as a time-bound project to catalyse transition towards a Wellbeing Economy by promoting radical connection and collaboration between different actors of the new economy ecosystem to achieve impact larger than the sum of parts, WEAll envisions a world where everyone has enough to live in comfort, safety, and happiness; where all people feel secure in basic comforts and can use creative energies to support flourishing of all life; where we thrive in a restored, safe, and vibrant natural environment because we have learned to give back as much as we are given; and where we have voice over collective destiny and find belonging, meaning, and purpose through genuine connection to people and planet that sustain us. WEAll’s mission is to change the debate and build momentum for economic transformation so that economies around the world deliver shared wellbeing for people and planet by 2040. WEAll’s assumptions about how change happens recognize that nothing ever changed without a movement demanding and demonstrating for it; a movement will never form without a compelling story people want to be part of; ideas evolve and improve through sharing, listening, and learning; ideas become actions through varied approaches that chip away at different points of the system; and therefore a mosaic movement of different people with different skills and spheres of influence is needed. WEAll’s values recognize that a Wellbeing Economy is not simply a different economic system but involves a shift in how we seek to live together from seeing ourselves as owners and consumers toward being caretakers and creators of a flourishing world, aiming to embody the shift needed in worldviews, society, and economy from “us vs them” to “we all.”
Why it matters: WEAll recognizes that transforming economic systems requires not individual organizations working in isolation but radical connection and collaboration between diverse actors achieving impact larger than the sum of parts through a mosaic movement with different skills and spheres of influence. By focusing on changing the debate and building momentum rather than implementing a single solution, WEAll demonstrates that economic transformation happens through compelling stories people want to join, ideas evolving through sharing and learning, and varied approaches chipping away at different system points. The alliance’s vision that a Wellbeing Economy involves shifting from owners and consumers toward caretakers and creators embodies understanding that delivering shared wellbeing for people and planet by 2040 requires transforming worldviews and relationships, not merely replacing one economic model with another.
