Yuka Saionji Matsuura

Deputy Chairperson, Byakko Shinko Kai
May Peace Prevail on Earth. When we pray this prayer together, beyond all differences of religion, culture, and nationality, we discover our shared divinity and our power to heal the world.

Yuka Saionji is Deputy Chairperson of Byakko Shinko Kai, a spiritual organization founded over fifty years ago by her grandfather Masahisa Goi and dedicated to world peace and raising human consciousness through the universal peace prayer “May Peace Prevail on Earth.” Born and raised in Tokyo with childhood years in the United States and Germany, Saionji holds a law degree from Gakushuin University and has authored “The Notebook of the Heart,” published in Japan and featured in newspapers for its insights on spiritual development and peace consciousness. Through Byakko Shinko Kai, she organizes interfaith events including the “Symphony of Peace Prayers,” where religious leaders from different traditions lead more than 10,000 people in harmonious prayer, demonstrating the organization’s teaching that all humanity possesses inherent divinity regardless of religious background. Saionji also works with the sister organization Goi Peace Foundation and is deeply involved in global youth peace initiatives, including the World Spirit Youth Council, a movement to activate spirituality among young people from many countries who are committed to creating positive change in the world. Her work represents a unique bridge between ancient Japanese spiritual wisdom and contemporary global peacebuilding, demonstrating how traditional practices of prayer and meditation can serve modern movements for planetary healing and consciousness transformation.

Why their voice matters: Saionji demonstrates how spiritual practice and interfaith collaboration can serve practical peacebuilding by creating experiences where thousands of people from different religious traditions unite in prayer, showing that beneath surface differences lies shared human capacity for peace consciousness and collective healing that transcends cultural and religious boundaries.
