Zaya Ralitza Benazzo

Filmmaker, Consciousness Explorer, and Co-Founder, Science & Nonduality (SAND)
The meeting point between science and spirituality is not just an intellectual exercise—it's where we discover who we really are and how we can heal both ourselves and our planet.

Zaya Ralitza Benazzo is a filmmaker from Bulgaria with degrees in engineering, environmental science, and film who transitioned from environmental activism in Holland and Bulgaria to producing and directing award-winning documentaries exploring consciousness, spirituality, and human potential in Europe and the United States. Co-founder with her husband Maurizio Benazzo of Science and Nonduality (SAND), an organization that explores the intersection of scientific understanding and nondual wisdom traditions through conferences, films, and educational programs that bring together leading scientists, philosophers, and spiritual teachers. Her filmmaking work focuses on documenting conversations about consciousness, the nature of reality, and humanity’s search for meaning, creating accessible bridges between complex philosophical concepts and everyday understanding through visual storytelling. Through SAND conferences held globally, Benazzo has helped create spaces where Nobel Prize-winning physicists dialogue with meditation masters, where neuroscientists explore mystical experiences, and where ancient wisdom traditions meet cutting-edge research in fields like quantum physics and consciousness studies. Her environmental background informs her understanding that outer ecological crisis and inner spiritual awakening are interconnected challenges requiring integrated approaches that address both practical environmental solutions and fundamental shifts in consciousness. As a filmmaker and event organizer, Benazzo continues documenting and facilitating conversations about what she sees as humanity’s evolution toward greater understanding of the interconnected nature of mind, matter, and spirit.

Why their voice matters: Benazzo demonstrates how consciousness exploration and environmental healing are interconnected processes, using film and conference organizing to show that addressing ecological crisis requires not just technological solutions but fundamental shifts in how we understand our relationship to reality, bridging scientific inquiry with contemplative wisdom traditions.
