He has degrees in theoretical physics, experimental psychology, and computer science from the University of Cambridge, England. In India, he studied meditation and Eastern philosophy, and on his return took up research into the psychophysiology of meditation at the University of Bristol.

He was one of the first people to introduce human potential seminars into the corporate field, and for twenty years worked with major corporations on creativity, learning methods, stress management and personal development. His principal interest is the inner challenges of the times we are passing through. His books include The Global Brain, Waking Up in Time, and most recently From Science to God.

Current Work

He is currently working on two new books. One on letting go, which brings together the various insights and discoveries from his own meditation work. It proposes that letting go is not something you do, but you can learn how to let it happen in just about any area of life.

The second book presents a view of the cosmos in which consciousness is fundamental—and the ultimate source of what we perceive as space, time, and matter. Many have proposed this point of view from metaphysical perspectives, but Peter is arguing for this from conclusions in contemporary science, showing how they point to the very same picture.

In recent years, Peter has developed various fine-tunings to meditation practice which allow one to let go into profound stillness more easily, and he is beginning to teach these in his workshops and retreats with very encouraging results.

Peter Russell is also working on a complete remake of his video The Global Brain.
